Professor Dr. Christopher Preece BSc(Hons) PhD FCIOB MCIM FHEA

Professor Preece is in the Department of Civil Engineering, RAZAK School of Engineering and Advanced Technology at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Kuala Lumpur. He was for 2 years in the Department of Quantity Surveying at the International Islamic University Malaysia and prior to this, 14 years in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds, UK.

His specialist research field is in the area of construction and engineering business management. In addition, he is a recognized authority in international business development and marketing. He is an author of more than 50 books and papers at an international level.

Professor Preece is co-founder and editor of the Journal of Quantity Surveying and Construction Business.

Professor Preece is involved in postgraduate supervision managing many Masters and Doctoral students and has provided seminars on research management. He has been an external examiner of several doctoral candidates in the UK and Malaysia.

Professor Preece is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the United Kingdom. He has been external assessor for a number of universities in the UK and abroad including Glasgow Caledonian University and Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) in Kuala Lumpur.

Qualifications
Christopher Preece graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Building from Leeds Polytechnic in 1989. He was awarded a PhD from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh in 1994. Chris is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Member of the Institute of Learning and Teaching (now part of the Higher Education Academy). He is an Associate Member of the Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy.

Professional Activities
Chris served as Chair of Leeds and West Yorkshire Branch (2000) and of the Yorkshire Branch (2001) of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). His professional involvement includes active committee work at regional and national level and organisation of Continuing Professional Development activities. Chris was involved in examining candidates for Corporate Membership of the CIOB and has been a member of the Professional Interviewing Panel in the Yorkshire Region (since 1997).
